I saw the swinging lamp in the Cathedral at Pisa that inspired Galileo to pursue science as a vocation rather than medicine. I always thought that God must indeed have a sense of humour that this incident in God's house was seminal to the eventual undermining of the authority of the church. Divine intervention, perhaps?

Isn't it beautiful? Did you go to Florence to see his telescope and the reliquary they made of his finger?

John
No, we went to Florence, but as I was with a coach tour we were at the mercy of the tour director's thoughts on what was worth seeing. We did get to see David.
I wanna see the finger! A lot of people show me their fingers but that's not meant in a nice way, let alone a holy relic.

Your wish is my command [b].

Thanks! I imagined it would have icons all around rather than a fancy whiskey glass. What's up with that? And YES, I'd drink whiskey out of that glass as is. Why not? Dust to dust and all that...

Who's up for making a wish and breaking the pulley-bone?

That's just the center part of the reliquary. The whole thing looks like a giant medal with a glass center.

And YES, I'd drink whiskey out of that glass as is. Why not? Dust to dust and all that...

Been tapping the admiral lately? Just remember that we scientists are an odd lot, and likely to cause hallucinations without the aid of spirits...

Pretty! That sounds much more elegant and less...Partylite Candle-holderesque.

re: Bentham "Another version of the story asserts that the Auto-Icon does vote, but only on occasions when the votes of the other Council members are equally split. In these cases the Auto-Icon invariably votes for the motion."

Now, that's Utilitarianism.

-tapping the admiral link failed but reading about your friend Bentham was super!

One of these days, I'll learn to check how Vox puts the links in every time! Here's tapping the admiral once more.

The only part of this I have a problem with is I'd rather they "field dress" the body. Well, and it's not true but it could be true so long as they get rid of the intestines (and their contents) before imbuing. :) Picky, picky...

Mmmm... Long pig.

You know...I've never seen the play or film/s. Decidedly uncultured, I am.

No - just differently cultured. <grin> Sweeney Todd is one of Sondheim's most accessible works [1]. The score is difficult but "hum-able" and there is a certain delicious delight in the lyrics.

[1] Followed closely by A Little Night Music and Company. NB: I'm not counting West Side Story, Gypsy, or A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to The Forum, as those were written with Sondheim as the junior partner.

And yet, our moon just gets called The Moon. Sigh. Though that does always remind me of The B-52s song "There's A Moon In The Sky (It's Called The Moon)"

And yet, our moon just gets called The Moon.

Well, you could always call it Selene, Luna, or Diana.
