Can't say where it comes from but I didn't even watch school plays. I was busy in the art building :) The best part of that is people left us alone, which is exactly what we wanted!
Well, it's only folklore, but supposedly Fred Astaire's first screen test prompted the comment "Can't sing. Can't act. Balding. Can dance a little." Can't think of any composers who have said that, though.
